Cheshire Wealth Manager Networking Instructions
The Cheshire Wealth Manager is a client-server application. This means that the database can be installed on one computer and any other computer on the network can access it, provided they have a license from Cheshire to do so. If the database will be installed on a central server computer, you do not need to purchase a separate license for that computer.
First, Install the Database
For a database on a separate computer (server installation)
- From the computer that will host the database, Download and run the setup for Cheshire Wealth Manager (full-installation with SQL).
- This setup will first install SQL Server on the computer, then the Cheshire application itself.
- Follow on-screen prompts to complete install.
Then, Add Networked Computers
Install the software on each computer that will run Cheshire Wealth Manager
- From the new computer to be added as an assistant, Download and run the setup for Cheshire Wealth Manager (application only).
- Follow on-screen prompts to complete install.
Have each computer point to the database
- 1. Using Windows Explorer, find the following file: c:\Program Files\Cheshire\CWM2\CheshireApplication.exe.config (assuming program is installed in the default directory)
- Right click on it.
- Select "Send To" and Select "Notepad".
- Find the line <add key="SQLInstance" value="(local)">
- Change "(local)" to be the network name of the computer hosting the database, do not use (). So, if the computer name is E5rdxr41, the line would read: <add key="SQLInstance" value="E5rdxr41">
- Save the file using Ctrl+S or File Save from the menu bar.
Add User/Computer Information to Database
For an Assistant License
- From any computer on the network that has Full Administrative Rights for Cheshire, start the Wealth Manager program.
- After logging in, you will be at the home page. Select Users from the tree structure at the far left.
- From the list of Users, use your mouse to highlight which user will be adding an assistant.
- Click Edit button at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Registered computers from the pop-up list.
- Click New button on registered user pop up window.
- Using the 3rd option on the pop up window, select the computer you want to add using the drop down list of computers on the network. If the computer is not listed, use the 2nd option to manually type in the computer name. Click Next.
- Click Next after confirming registered computers.
- Call Cheshire at 800-734-6734 to receive your activation code, click Next.
- Click Finish twice to complete the process
For a Full License
- From any computer on the network that has Full Administrative Rights for Cheshire, start the Wealth Manager program.
- After logging in, you will be at the home page. Select Users from the tree structure at the far left.
- Click New at the bottom of the screen and follow prompts for user name, password, and security question, click Next.
- Assign application rights, click Next.
- Click New button on registered user pop up window.
- Using the 3rd option on the pop up window, select the computer you want to add using the drop down list of computers on the network. If the computer is not listed, use the 2nd option to manually type in the computer name, click Finish.
- Click Next after confirming registered computers.
- Call Cheshire at 800-734-6734 to receive your activation code, click Next.
- Click Finish twice to complete the process.
